On 12th of April Environmental Development Association memebers Karlis Maulics and Elina Berzina participated in project seminar EnSaCo Oil Spill “Challenges of cross-border shoreline oil spill response in the Central Baltic Sea” organized by Haaga- Helia Univeristy in Helsinki. The main aim of the project is to raise and develop the level of expertise and to intensify cross-border shoreline response.

The participating bodies are authorities, NGOs and Education intitutions in Estonia, Finland, Sweden and Russia (Russia is and additional partner in project). The project is developed in Central Baltic Interreg IVA programme and in its territory also is inculded Latvia but for now there is no representatives from Latvia. The project is already running starting from December of 2009.

The aim of EDA is to develop the cooperation strategy that allow in project join and participate also Latvian bodies, authorities and responsible institutions. This would be important step in Oil Spill response, the experience and project results transfer in Latvia. This event was 1st of 3 planned EnSaCo projet seminars. Next 2 seminars are planned in Sweden and Estonia.
