3rd SUBMARINER Network Members’ Assembly and Workshop on macroalgae value chains


EDA participated in Submariner Members’ Assembly and Workshop on macroalgae value chains, which was organized in the premises of University of Copehagen, Taastrup, Denmark on 25th-26th February 2015.

The workshop was devoted to objective of enhancing resource-efficient and sustainable blue growth opportunities by preparing the ground for a commercial and environmentally sounds use of macroalgae (seaweed) in the Baltic Sea Region. Participants discussed possibilities of establishing macroalgae cultivation pilot sites and beach-cast harvesting activities in the BSR, assessed current status and key aspects of environmental, technological, regulatory and socioeconomic preconditions, identified commercially and environmentally best suitable macroalgae species for cultivation in the BSR, discussed industrial applications of macroalgae, technology and knowledge transfer as well as development of a new algae-based value chains.

EDA core interest in the past years was devoted to research and development of sustainable, innovative and efficient uses of macro and micro algae in the Baltic Sea Region. EDA shared previous experience and knowledge during the workshop.

SUBMARINER Network EEIG consortium welcomed new associate members. Jesper Mazanti Aaslyng, R&D Manager of AgroTech (Member of Submariner Network) introduced with AgroTech main activity directions, and informed that Green Center ( is now merged with AgroTech, widening expertise and knowledge. Network members, including EDA discussed on-going activities relevant for SUBMARINER Roadmap and status of Roadmap implementation. During discussion participants highlighted new project ideas and directions of research.
