The project SUBMARINER is completed

SUBMARINER project has shown that by using innovative methods for marine resources the end product is immense. Just as important is that the marine products are more demanded in the world market- new medicaments, renewable energy resources and food products. In the final conference of SUBMARINER project each participant was made aware of the opportunities of using marine resources and its high potential.

Among the invited participants for the project SUBARINER conference was the Minister of Environment from Aland Islands Carina Aaltonen, HELCOM executive secretary Monika Stankiewicz, European Commission representative Carla Montesi, VASAB head of secretariat Talis Linkaits, and number of other high rang political persons, as well as participants from universities, institutes, companies and non- governmental organizations.

Conference "AQUACULTURE EUROPE 2013"

Within the framework of project SUBMARINER Environmental Development Association took part in the "AQUACULTURE EUROPE 2013" conference in Trondheim, Norway from 9-12 August. The aim of the conference was to highlight the need for science and business to collaborate in order to promote sustainable technological and innovative aquaculture development.

During the conference workshop session dedicated to algae Karlis Maulics, Chairman of Environmental Development Association presented SUBMARINER project goals, tasks and results as well as results of “Development plan for the potential resumption of agar production from red algae Furcellaria in the Latvian coastal region Kurzeme”.

Algae Cultivation and Processing - Possibility for Sustainable Growth

Environmental Development association in cooperation with Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development organized conference dedicated to cultivation and processing possibilities of micro and macro algae in the Baltic Sea Region. 

The conference „Cultivation and Processing Possibilities of Micro and Macro Algae in the Baltic Sea Region” within transnational programme project SUBMARINER (Sustainable Uses of Baltic Marine Resource) was held in Liepāja, May 28. It was the first conference which was dedicated to the cultivation and processing of algae in the Baltic Sea bringing together representatives of municipalities, business, researchers and others.

EDA participated in SUBMARINER project partner meeting in Maribo, Lolland (Denmark)

SUBMARINER partner meeting was hosted by LOKE/ Green Center and took place in Maribo, Lolland from 6th – 8th May, 2013. 

First day of the partner meeting was dedicated to discussion about SUBMARINER status and overall project progress development since the Riga partner meeting. Due to an effort and results of the project - SUBMARINER Network received a flagship status in the revised Action Plan of the EUSBSR!

Invitation to the conference within the project SUBMARINER  “Cultivation and processing possibilities of micro and macro algae in the Baltic Sea Region”

Environmental development association within the Baltic Sea Region transnationalprogramme project SUBMARINER – “Sustainable Uses of Baltic Marine Resources”invites stakeholders of private and public sector to the conference dedicated tocultivation and processing possibilities of micro and macro algae in the Baltic SeaRegion. 

The aim of the conference is to inform about innovative technologies and applicationof practices for sustainable use of micro and macro algae as well as to promotecultivation and processing possibilities, since the novel technologies and growingknowledge provide opportunities for new uses, which can be both commerciallyappealing and environmentally friendly. The event will engage national keyrepresentatives, invited experts and related stakeholders in the field to share theirexperiences and knowledge raising a professional dialog between science andbusiness integration, and cooperation.
